Bicycle Clinic raids have netted 1500 stolen bikes, police say

Torontonians hunted through row upon row of up-ended bicycles today, looking to re-claim their stolen property after policeseized a record 1,500 bicycles associated with a notorious usedbike store on Queen West.
SI"m not aware of any bicycle seizures in the last 28 yearsthat are as great as this, said Det. Sgt. Egidio Roseto.SIt"s an enormous number of bikes that we"ve taken from somestorage locations.
Police have since hauled truckloads of stolen bikes to a servicegarage at 9 Hanna Ave., and invited the public to come with serialnumbers and receipts and photos, to identify and claim their stolenbikes.
But while nearly 50 bikes had been claimed by mid-afternoon, manyof the cyclists quickly established that their bike was not amongthe 200 or so on display, and went to peer beyond police barriersat tangled masses of glinting, as-yet-uncatalogued bikes.
Linda Woodward, 50, came to look for two stolen bikes: a $500Energizer bike, and a $25 garage sale number that she bought afterthe first theft had disheartened her.- uebueb2
