New York Giants Ship Shockey To New Orleans For Two Draft Picks
Albany, NY (AHN) - The New York Giants traded talented, thoughvolatile, tight end Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints inexchange for a pair of draft picks Monday.
Shockey is talented, but did not play a significant role in theteam winning the Super Bowl last season, and sometimes displayed a"me-first" attitude.
The move appears to be a winner all-around, as the Giants nabbed asecond-round and fifth-pick in the trade, first reported byFoxSports.com, and already have a solid tight end in place in KevinBoss.
Boss hauled in nine catches for 140 yards and a touchdown in sixgames, while Shockey missed the latter part of the season aftersuffering a broken leg.
Boss is also a good blocker and carries none of the baggage ofShockey, who reportedly got into a shouting match with Giants G.M.Jerry Reese prior to last season.
Shockey has been consistently productive, nabbing over 50 catchesthe last four seasons and will get a chance to shine again in theparty atmosphere of New Orleans. His finest season in New York camein 2002, when he hauled in 74 catches for 894 yards and two scores.
